For years, your Google Business Profile was a static card. Name, hours, phone, a map pin, some reviews, maybe a few photos you uploaded in 2023.
That is changing. Google has been rolling out a Social Media Updates carousel on Business Profiles, a row of cards that pulls recent posts from social accounts a business connects, and displays them right in the panel below the address, phone number, and reviews. It started appearing in late 2025, expanded through 2026, and is still rolling out by region and language, so yours may or may not show it yet.
Here is the part that changes how you should think about it: you pick the networks, Google picks the posts.
Why that one detail matters so much
There is no approval queue. You connect Instagram, and Google decides which of your recent posts to surface on the profile a customer sees seconds before they tap call.
For a business posting consistently, that is a free storefront window attached to the single most-viewed asset in local search. For a business whose last post was a Fourth of July graphic from two summers ago, it is a public statement that nobody is home.
Neither of those is new information about your business. What is new is that Google is now displaying it, unprompted, to someone in the act of deciding whether to contact you.
How to connect it
The setup takes about five minutes:
- Open your Google Business Profile dashboard and find the section for social links or profile information.
- Add one link per platform. Google supports Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X, and YouTube, with a single account each.
- Use the exact profile URL. Not a shortened link, not a redirect, not a link-in-bio page.
- Check on mobile in a few days. Search your business name on a phone. The carousel shows up most reliably on branded searches on mobile, and rollout is still uneven, so absence today is not failure.
If you only connect one, make it the network you actually maintain. An empty connected profile is worse than an unconnected one.
What to publish once it is live
The audience for this carousel is different from your regular social audience. These people are not scrolling for entertainment. They searched your business name, or they found you in the map pack, and they are deciding right now whether to call.
That reframes what belongs there:
- Finished work, dated recently. A completed job, a delivered order, a treated room, a repaired unit. Proof that you are working this month.
- Real faces. Your team, your shop, your truck. The panel already shows a logo. What it cannot show is that you are a real operation with real people.
- Answers to the question they are about to ask. Availability this week, a common price, how fast you can get out there.
- Reviews and results, when they are genuine. Nothing else converts a hesitant local searcher faster.
What does not belong: reposted stock quotes, holiday graphics, engagement bait, and anything that would make a customer wonder if you are still in business. If a post would not help someone decide to call you, it is taking a slot from one that would.
The consistency problem this creates
Every local business already knew it should post consistently. Most do not, because posting is the thing that falls off the list when the actual work gets busy.
The carousel raises the cost of that gap, because your posting frequency is now visible on your Business Profile rather than buried on a platform most of your customers never check. The fix is not more effort, it is batching. Capture material as it happens, sit down once a week, and schedule ahead so the feed keeps running while you are on a job. That is exactly the problem EMOR Social exists to solve, scheduling across ten platforms from one dashboard on one subscription, and we have a full playbook on what to post when you are out of ideas.
Where this fits in the bigger shift
This is one piece of a larger pattern. Google, and increasingly every AI assistant, is assembling a picture of your business from every source it can verify: your site, your profile, your listings, your reviews, and now your social feeds. Connecting your accounts confirms those profiles belong to you, which strengthens the connections an AI answer is built from.
The businesses that win here are not the loudest. They are the ones whose facts agree everywhere and whose activity is visible. We cover the full profile checklist in our Google Business Profile optimization guide, and the AI-answer side of it in how to become the business AI names.
Do this today
Connect the accounts you maintain. Disconnect nothing you would be embarrassed by, because you cannot filter it, so fix the feed instead. Then post something real this week.
If keeping a consistent feed running is the part that keeps slipping, that is the piece we can take off your plate. Tell us what you are working with and we will show you where the gaps are, or see how EMOR Social handles the scheduling side.
